Torre del Mangia, Siena, Italy

On the way home (to Vienna) from our camping trip through Italia, me and my 4-year-old climbed the Torre del Mangia in Siena. Before I bought the tickets for the tower, I asked him if he really will climb the 400 steps to the top of the Torre on his own. As he was very motivated, I bought the tickets.

Just minutes after I had the tickets, my son didn’t want to climb the stairs anymore and I had put all my effort into motivating him. As we finally started to climb the tower, he lamented on the 5th and 12th step, but walked the rest of the 100m to the top without even stopping. And we enjoyed a wonderful view over the roofs of Siena on a wonderful day at the end of October.

Later, on our way down, my eyes caught something between the stones of the old wall. First I thought some dork left garbage in the ancient wall. But as I reached for it it wasn’t garbage, but a quilted heart.

As I knew nothing about this practice, I had to google it, as soon I was back in our camper. I really like the idea and happily will place my own (quilted 🙂 heart somewhere to be found – by you?
