After being informed that our dear friend was near the end of her life, we drove (on 2/5/23) for a couple of hours to see her and to be there when visitors’ hours opened. When seeing the beautiful, quilted heart, I thought “oh, what a shame, someone lost this”. I picked the heart up to take it to lost-and-found, then decided, I should leave it for the owner to retrieve.

It was then that I noticed the tag with the words “I NEED A HOME!”. I thought “can this be? … should I really take this lovely heart with me?” Then, I remembered what a talented quilter our friend has always been. I had the heart with me for what turned out to be our final in-person visit with our friend.

Our friend was confused and did not speak much during the visit. The beads sewn onto the face of the quilted heart were a welcome distraction as we watched her rest. Our friend died two days later. To the angel who placed the quilted heart there to be discovered, you have no idea what a comfort it has been at this difficult time. THANK YOU!
