Sheridan, WY USA

My mom and I found this heart on Mother’s Day while taking a road trip from Colorado to Montana. I live half way across the country from my mom and rarely see her, so this was a special road trip. She flew from Maine to Colorado to keep me company on my drive up to Montana to spend the summer working in Yellowstone National Park. I was feeling nervous for this new experience, and my mom was there to encourage me. We hadn’t stopped driving for a while and we’re feeling like we needed to take a break. When we saw the sign for the Wyoming information center and rest stop in Sheridan, WY we decided it would be a good place to stop. I wanted to walk straight in the front door of the visitor center, but my mom wanted to look at the nice view from the balcony first. It was a nice view and she asked to take a picture of me. I stood in front of a pretty tree for the photo and noticed what I thought was a single purple flower, the first of the spring bloom! However, upon further inspection, my mom realized that it was a quilted heart. She had heard of people leaving them in special places for others to find, but I had never heard of it before. We read the tag and found out the heart was ours to keep. We both decided that the heart was special and that we were meant to find it. To me, the quilted heart is a sign of good luck for my new adventure, and a reminder of the special road trip I got to take with my mom.
