My girlfriend and I were walking the Santa Fe Trail on a warm spring evening when we spotted a bright orange heart hanging from a tree branch beside the path. We’re total cat people, so the little cat button sewn onto the heart made it feel like it was meant for us. At the time, we were deep in conversation—one of those soul-searching talks my dad would describe as a “What am I doing? Where am I going? What’s the meaning of life?” moment.
Finding that little heart felt like a quiet sign that everything is going to be okay. As if the universe were gently reminding us to find joy in small, unexpected things: a walk with someone you love, or a bit of kindness left behind by a stranger along the trail.
