I was going for a run in Golden Gate Park as I have many times before. When I found the quilted heart hanging on a tree, I immediately thought of my mom — I had just gotten back to SF after staying with her for 2-3 weeks for her knee surgery. She lives across the country but loves the west coast and keeping up with my travels. I mailed it to her as a surprise because I wanted to send her some cheer during her recovery.
Two months later, I’m here in NC with her now and she’s a lot better. We’re enjoying some quality time watching jeopardy and bad TV, cooking, playing with her dog and, now, writing the story about this heart.
