On Christmas Day 2023 I was pursuing my annual goal of cleaning at least 1,000 plastic bottles for stream, rivers and stream sides. I was at the parking lot for the Haw River Access on US HWY 15/501 north of Pittsboro, Chatham County, NC, USA, picking up litter around the parking lot and the riverside below it and found this heart thumbtacked to a post adjacent the parking lot. I guess this is the river’s gentle way of saying “thank you”.
