I decided to go on a hike at The Monoliths, a few towns over from where I live. I felt called to be out in nature. I took many pictures of brightly colored mushrooms and felt at peace underneath the canopy of trees. I took the red trail leading to “Little Rock” and retraced my steps and curved back down to “Big Rock”. Just before the behemoth of stone I saw this beautiful quilted heart dangling from a tree branch. What a sweet surprise! I carried it with me to finish out the entire trail system.

This act of kindness felt especially special to me as this was my first long hike out since breaking my ankle. There was an air of hope and strength that I hadn’t felt in a long time. Healing certainly isn’t a linear process. Walking the winding, rocky trails, balancing on top fallen logs, and even getting lost for a bit, all served as reminders of life’s healing process.

I eventually came out of the woods exhausted and sore, but I did not regret going. In fact, I felt proud for pushing myself to get back out there! Thank you to this project. Feeling grateful!
