I work for Hilton Grand Vacations as the Recreation Supervisor and I am this year’s director of the Mr. & Miss Juneteenth Scholarship Pageant Program. I often to local meet ups on Fridays to educate and entertain guests to our beautiful island. I was also an educator at Battery Creek High School where I taught yearbook, senior English and was the Cheer Coach where it was my goal to share the empowering stories and history of our efforts to unite the people of the Lowcountry. As I was prepping for my meet up group I decided to take a stop at the Harriett Tubman monument and just spend time in thought and reverence when I looked at the bush and saw the heart. With everything going on in the world to destroy these stories, this heart was a reminder that the spirit of unity, community, and freedom are still very present in the Beaufort Sea Islands. It gave me a little hope today.
