I found my quilted heart in Frankenmuth,MI USA. It’s a little bavarian/German town in the thumb of Michigan where many people from my hometown go to have good food, good company, enjoy local shops and most importantly, check out Bronner’s year round Christmas store.
Today I visited for a day trip with my sisters and mother. This was one of the rare times in which the four of us had a whole day together since one of us is married, one of us is a student and all of us work so much. It’s also the end of a chaotic year within our family as we have dealt with a lot of hardships within our family and professional lives. To put it simply, there has been a lot of heartbreak and feelings of hopelessness this year.
I found this heart hanging on the string lights of a tree outside of one of our favorite shops to check out. It was rainy so I had to wring the water out of it, but the 4 of us were so excited to find it.
It’s little moments like these, when something good happens while I’m already happy and I’m surrounded by my favorite people, that remind me why I’m still here. Despite the lows in life, there will always be highs. And I’m so thankful for that reminder as 2023 comes to an end. Hopefully 2024 brings many more moments such as these.
