It was a brisk and partly cloudy day when we started a casual hike in the hills of Brown County, Indiana. The trail was really a bike trail, but in February it was what we like to call “greasy”. That means it was slick with mud and not the best for two wheeled transportation. But we had boots and gloves and were gently holding hands for support. Talking and walking my recent girlfriend and I were enjoying the woods and being outdoors and being together on our first get away vacation. We were falling in love and we both knew it. We were happy and intent and content when we nearly missed a small colorful object dangling from a low branch on the side of the trail. What could that be since the only colors were dark grays and browns. We were completely surprised to find our heart that wanted and needed a home. How ironic that our own hearts wanted and needed a new home. Sometimes the Universe has your back as we like to say. We were already celebrating Valentine’s Day as it was my girlfriend’s birthday and also lovers’ day. Now we have a small cloth handmade heart to remind us, and now we aren’t just falling in love . . .
